Thorlief Joseph Schmidt, also known as Bud, passed away and was found in his home Thursday evening March 16th 2017. He passed peacefully and painlessly in his sleep in the comfort of his home. Bud was born September 4th 1945 to Josephine and Jack Schmidt. During his service in the U.S. Army, he fought in the Vietnam war as a Ranger earning his Combat Infantry Badge and his Marksman Ribbon for shooting among many other awards. Upon his return, he fathered two sons with Stella Schmidt—Jason and Michael Schmidt. Bud is preceded by his parents and his sister Bernadette Schmidt. He is survived by his siblings Dee Schmidt, Milo Schmidt, Sandy McPheeters, Sharon LaBox, Shirley Pettis, and Sunny Schmidt. Along with his ex-wife Stella, his three children Jason, Mike, and Karen. Along with his three grandchildren Parker, Kaidence and Aaron, all of which loved him deeply. The kind and generous man he was, he went out of his way to help those in need—giving both time and money to family and friends. He always gave more than he received, never expecting anything in return. He enjoyed drinking coffee every morning with his best friend Shawn Bernier, as well as the frequent visits to many of the diners in town. He will be greatly missed by many, and we are very fortunate to have had a man such as him in our lives. Bud’s remains are to be cremated and a ceremony will be held at a later date. For those who are interested in attending, please contact Karen at (509) 728-4381 by April 20th 2017 so that we may contact those interested in attending.
