Arthur Allison Bernier of Yakima passed away peacefully at Cottage in the Meadow on Friday March 29th, 2019. He was born to Idelle and Telesphore Bernier of Selah April 13th, 1938. Raised in Selah and a graduate of Selah High School, Art joined the US Coast Guard and served 22 years on many different ships and stations, including his favorite duty, as a lighthouse keeper in Port Townsend, Washington. He retired as a Boatswain’s Mate Chief (E-7). He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Clydene V. Bernier, his brothers Gene Bernier and Doug Bernier, and sisters Ada Sutter and JoAnn Twiss. He is survived by brother Charles Edward Bernier of Sarasota, Florida, daughter Ronda Knight of Yakima, son Roger Bernier of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and son Ron Bernier of Katy, Texas, eight grandchildren and a great-grandson. Arthur will be buried at sea this fall by a US Coast Guard Cutter with honors.
