Gerald (Jerry) Roy Walters, 83, of Yakima, Washington, died May 13, 2024, at Cottage in the Meadow Hospice.
Jerry was born August 10, 1940, in Toppenish, Washington to Charles Walters, Sr. and Velma (Huylar) Walters, the youngest of five children.
After graduating from Toppenish High School in 1959, Jerry enlisted in the army. In 1962, he married Joyce Williams. Together they had a son, Jeffrey.
After the army, Jerry met Chloe (Bunny) Zable They were married in The Dalles, Oregon in 1966. They had two daughters, Lynnette and Angela, which they raised in Wishram, Washington.
Jerry worked as a brakeman and conductor for both the SP&S and BNSF railroads from the late 1960's to his retirement in the early 1990's.
Jerry was elected many years to the Wishram School board. He was proud of his ability to impact the community in such a positive way.
Jerry enjoyed fishing and hunting with his coworkers, loved razor clam digging at Long Beach, and delighted in vacationing with Bunny.
Jerry treasured time spent with his children and grandchildren. He got a kick out of teaching each one to burp loud and long. Jerry attended Lynnette's basketball games and track meets, Angela's volleyball games, Alexa's soccer games, and Damien's drag races. Jerry was thrilled to meet his three great grandsons.
Jerry is survived by his wife Chloe Walters of Yakima; son Jeff (Tammy) Dorn of Snohomish; daughter Lynnette (Junior) Chinn of Wapato; granddaughter Alexa (Scott) Beier of Snohomish; grandson Scott Swope of La Grande, Oregon; grandson Dustin Swope of La Grande, Oregon; grandson Damien (Charlee) Chinn of Yakima; great grandsons Sam, Oliver, and Tydus; brother Charles Walters, Jr., sister Marilyn Walker, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by daughter Angela, two sisters, and two nephews.
